Seattle, WA – Parametrix has been selected by King County as the prime consultant to provide engineering and related services for the Interbay Forcemain and Odor Control project.

The existing conveyance system in the Interbay Forcemain and Odor Control project was constructed in 1965-67 and is at the limits of its useful life. With a capacity of over 133 million gallons per day, it conveys the wastewater flows from Central, Southeast and West Seattle, as well as South Park and Georgetown, which ultimately go to the West Point Treatment Plant. The conveyance system is 3,100 linear feet, consisting of dual 36-inch steel pipes followed by dual 48-inch concrete-lined and coated steel pipes, from the Interbay Pump Station, immediately south of Magnolia Bridge, to the Discharge Structure near the Interbay Golf Course. The pipeline conveys wastewater flows between Section 7 and 8 of the Elliott Bay Interceptor system.

Successful completion of the project includes replacement of the 200 feet of 36-inch pipes, rehabilitation of the 2900 feet of 48-inch pipes, and the addition of an odor control system at the Discharge Structure.

This project will include coordination with the National Guard, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF), Seattle Department of Transportation, and other stakeholders.

Parametrix previously provided engineering services for the Interbay Pump Station Upgrade project which was constructed 230 days ahead of schedule and 20% under budget. The facility is a critical component in controlling flow in the system and optimizing use of upstream storage. The project received the 2015 ACEC State Gold Award for Complexity. Parametrix is also currently working on the Medina-Wilburton Siphons Odor Control Project and the Alki Treatment Plant Blower and Scrubber Project with King County.
