09.08.17 Parametrix to Provide Planning and Design Services for King County’s RapidRide Program Expansion
Seattle, WA – King County Metro has selected Parametrix to perform planning and design services for the expansion of Metro’s RapidRide program.
RapidRide is Metro’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) transportation program. The goal of the program is to provide fast, reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly bus service in major arterial corridors. BRT is a term used to describe a variety of transit services and facility investments that are intended to achieve higher capacity and faster operation than traditional bus services. There are currently six RapidRide lines in service, with 13 new lines to be implemented throughout King County by 2025.
Parametrix and a team of subconsultants will support King County in the development of an Implementation Plan for the RapidRide corridors and will assist with the assessment of current passenger facilities, speed and reliability improvements, and communication infrastructure of the existing RapidRide lines to ensure that the planned improvements are sufficient to meet the needs of the expanded program. The contract includes planning, branding, architectural, and engineering services. Phase 1 of the project is estimated to last 18 months.
Parametrix has partnered with King County Metro on other projects including the Speed and Reliability Work Order Contract and the Metro Long Range Transportation Plan. The firm has over 20 years of experience managing transit facility programs and projects.
