what we do

Mixed-Use

We help our clients plan and design smart, sustainable mixed-use developments with a complementary mix of residential, retail, commercial, employment, civic, and entertainment uses. These developments promote environmentally friendly habits through walkable neighborhoods, green spaces, and linkages to transit. Our planners, engineers, and landscape architects work together with developers to achieve a balance between uses and create a sense of community.

Vista Field Redevelopment
Kennewick, Washington

Client: Port of Kennewick
Partner: Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company

Vista Field is a 103-acre former municipal airport that ceased operations in December 2013. The redevelopment of this centrally located site represents an extraordinary strategic opportunity for the Port of Kennewick, and for the entire Tri-Cities region to create a vibrant, pedestrian-focused regional town center. A multi-year, robust public involvement process, which included design charrettes and numerous open houses, resulted in a vision for a mixed-use commercial and residential neighborhood anchored by an 800-seat performing arts center. It will feature fountain plazas, a canal-lined walkway, and buildings that merge seamlessly into living streets where cars, bicycles, and pedestrians share equal footing. Parametrix has been involved with the master planning and is providing civil design and landscape architecture for the first phase of infrastructure including utilities, streets, sidewalks, trees, and lighting.
