what we do

3D Scanning & Modeling

Using technology for accuracy and efficiency

3D laser scanning and high definition surveying allows Parametrix to provide our clients with the highest level of precision in the shortest amount of time. With this technology, we can safely and efficiently complete surveys in locations where accessibility is difficult or unsafe, such as busy highways. Where no as-built drawings exist, we can rapidly collect highly accurate true to scale as-built data. This data can be transferred to CADD or Revit for use in project design or modeled for building information modeling (BIM) applications.

UW Medical Center
Seattle, Washington
Client: University of Washington

The UW Medical Center encompasses six stories, two below grade. This large laser scanning project encompassed approximately 86 laser scans, 100 hours of field surveying, 200 hours of 3D modeling, and over 60 360-degree high resolution panoramic images. Laser scanning data was merged with the conventional topographic survey of the building’s exterior. 3D models were generated of exterior features. Additional laser scanning and modeling tasks were completed on the interior to locate the existing structural columns to verify the building tie-in points and grid lines. Utility corridors were located using laser scanning and conventional survey methods. The adjacent three-story parking garage was also laser scanned for structural verification for staging.
