what we do

Construction Surveying

Translating plans into the built environment

Construction staking is a crucial step in the building process. Our surveyors understand construction plans and specifications, and accurately layout reference points and markers to guide construction as intended by the designer. Parametrix survey crews have performed construction staking and as-built surveys on a variety of projects ranging from simple to highly complicated construction. We are known for our creative, out-of-the-box solutions to challenges that arise in the field.

This project replaced the 1930s Manette Bridge over the Port Washington Narrows. The existing bridge was structurally deficient with narrow lanes, shoulder, and sidewalk. During construction of the 1,550-foot replacement bridge, Parametrix provided construction staking support which required the highest accuracies and careful planning to coincide with the construction schedule and strict tolerances. To prepare for girder placement our surveyors performed grout pad layout on the pier caps. Once the girders were raised by cranes, survey crews worked closely with operators to align the girders for horizontal and vertical placement. After post tensioning of the spans, we performed high precision as-builts to compare measurements at closure and pier positions. When the girder placement had been solidified, surveyors laid out the components necessary to construct the bridge deck, driving surface, and sidewalk.
