Environmental Mapping

Depicting environmental site conditions

Parametrix helps clients identify and estimate the nature and extent of historic and current environmental site conditions and problems. Our surveyors partner with our environmental planners, scientists, and GIS experts to depict and monitor site conditions. Services include wetland mapping, slide monitoring, drainage and elevation surveys, well location surveys, topographic surveys for reclamation, utility mapping, and forensic surveys for insurance claims.

Nisqually Glacier Monitoring | Parametrix
Nisqually Glacier Monitoring Surveys
Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington
Client: National Park Service

This project has been an annual endeavor for the National Park Service in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service and the Nisqually Tribe. Since 1991, surveyors have measured the ice-surface altitude and movement of the Nisqually Glacier. Cross sections of the glacier are surveyed from separate USGS instrument control stations located between 5,600 feet and 7,000 feet. Mount Rainier Park guides assist in the survey by traversing the glacier while the Parametrix survey crew collects data by conventional and GPS methods. In addition to data collection, plan and profile maps are updated and used for a variety of studies, including measurements of annual precipitation and global warming.
