what we do

Designing sustainable transportation solutions for livable communities

Transit systems improve livability, provide affordable mobility, manage congestion, and lower energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. From initial system planning and securing environmental approvals, through design and assistance with operations, Parametrix partners with agencies on all types of transit systems—commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, bus rapid transit, streetcar, and ferry systems. Our staff regularly coordinates with FTA and has comprehensive knowledge of the New Starts program.

Client: King County

RapidRide is a bus rapid transit service that provides streamlined service to destinations along the route and to places where riders can transfer to other buses and light rail. The A Line has 50 stations and stops. Parametrix developed PS&E for 14 stations in 5 cities along SR99 in South King County. We designed the electrical system on the A Line, which was subsequently used on other RapidRide lines. Stations have electronic signs that tell how many minutes until the next bus arrives. All stops feature stop request signals at the bus stop flag so a rider can trigger a light at night to signal a driver that a passenger is waiting.

“I wanted to thank you and the Parametrix team for the outstanding support you have provided the County on the East Lake Sammamish Trial Project. Parametrix’s complete understanding of the controversies surrounding the East Lake Sammamish Trail Project, the complexities in dealing with multiple jurisdictions, and the difficulties with regard to constraints surrounding the County’s budget has been critical in Parametrix and the County’s ability to identify and quantify risks associated with the project’s cost and schedule.”
