Transit

Designing sustainable transportation solutions for livable communities

Transit systems improve livability, provide affordable mobility, manage congestion, and lower energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. From initial system planning and securing environmental approvals, through design and assistance with operations, Parametrix partners with agencies on all types of transit systems—commuter rail, light rail, heavy rail, bus rapid transit, streetcar, and ferry systems. Our staff regularly coordinates with FTA and has comprehensive knowledge of the New Starts program.

Lynnwood Link Extension
Seattle to Lynnwood, Washington
Client: Sound Transit
Partner: Parsons Brinkerhoff

The Lynnwood Link Extension will extend the Link light rail system from Northgate in Seattle north to Lynnwood. We have completed an alternatives analysis, conceptual engineering, and EIS scoping, confirming that light rail is the best mode of transit and I-5 is the right corridor to study based on ridership, travel times, service levels, and cost. An EIS will examine potential alignments and station options for the 8-9 mile extension. The collaborative process involves a blended consultant team, working with Sound Transit, WSDOT, and 10 local agencies; and coordination with FTA Region X and Washington D.C. using FTA’s latest procedures for alternatives analysis and NEPA. Sound Transit plans to seek federal New Starts funds for construction.

“I wanted to thank you and the Parametrix team for the outstanding support you have provided the County on the East Lake Sammamish Trial Project. Parametrix’s complete understanding of the controversies surrounding the East Lake Sammamish Trail Project, the complexities in dealing with multiple jurisdictions, and the difficulties with regard to constraints surrounding the County’s budget has been critical in Parametrix and the County’s ability to identify and quantify risks associated with the project’s cost and schedule.”
