Mukilteo Ferry Terminal | Parametrix
Mukilteo Multimodal Transportation Study
Mukilteo, Washington
Client: WSDOT

The Mukilteo Ferry Terminal is a part of the SR 525 transportation corridor that connects Whidbey Island to Seattle and Everett. It is the ferry system’s busiest route for vehicle traffic and has the second highest annual ridership. Ridership is projected to increase by more than 70 percent by 2030. Washington State Ferries is planning to relocate the terminal to improve operations, multimodal connections, and safety. Parametrix has worked with the ferry system to develop several alternatives to improve multimodal connections for pedestrians, bicyclists, bus and rail transit riders, and vehicles. Traffic impacts were analyzed at several key intersections, both for short-term construction impacts and long-term effects. We evaluated new land uses and facilities such as a shoreline promenade that could transform Mukilteo’s waterfront into a vibrant mixed-use recreation area.
