Stormwater

Developing best management practices

Stormwater management practices and regulations have advanced rapidly in recent years. To reduce the impact of built areas, Parametrix uses low impact development (LID) principles and practices. Our solutions optimize the use of on-site natural features to improve water quality, protect habitat and wildlife, reduce life-cycle costs, and enhance communities. We apply the latest technologies to provide clients better ways to manage stormwater.

Newberg-Dundee Bypass | Parametrix
Newberg-Dundee Bypass
Newberg to Dundee, Oregon
Client: ODOT
Oregon DOT highlight

This new 11-mile bypass will help solve traffic congestion on Highway 99 between Newberg and Dundee. Midway through design, ODOT developed a new stormwater design manual. The project is the first project completed under these new guidelines including Standard Local Operating Procedures for Endangered Species (SLOPES IV). Stormwater management challenges included steep slopes, sensitive fish-bearing receiving streams, facility location challenges, and poorly-draining soils. Parametrix is developing several LID solutions for the project. Bio-infiltration is maximized using roadside infiltration strips and bio-infiltration swales to meet water quality treatment requirements. Ponds help meet flow control and sensitive stream protection requirements.

"Over the past year I have had the pleasure of working with the Parametrix team on the City's Storm and Surface Water Utility Comprehensive Plan Update. This has truly been a collaborative effort... working alongside city staff from a variety of departments and programs in addressing policy, regulatory and natural resources challenges."
