Engineering innovative wastewater treatment solutions

Increasing population, aging infrastructure, and stricter regulations have put pressure on wastewater conveyance and treatment systems. Parametrix develops sustainable, cost-effective solutions. In addition to traditional approaches, we are experienced in designing systems for advanced membrane filtration, reclaimed water, enhanced nutrient systems, and biosolids management. From collection and conveyance to treatment and reuse, we are exploring new ways for our clients to improve their operations and meet today’s challenges.

Bellevue Pump Station Upgrade
Bellevue, Washington
Client: King County
Partner: Jacobs Engineering

Parametrix designed upgrades to the Bellevue Pump Station that have increased the station’s peak pumping capacity to 13 mgd. All equipment at the pump station was replaced. Existing pumps were replaced with more powerful ones and stronger odor control equipment was installed. New above-grade buildings were designed and an upstream storage structure was constructed. We minimized costs by re-using the existing wet wet/dry well structure. The design was carefully coordinated with a new 24-inch horizontal directional drill force main to divert wet weather seasonal flows. During dry seasons, flows are pumped through an existing 20-inch force main. We incorporated a variety of energy-saving measures including variable frequency drives and energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems.
