Engineering innovative wastewater treatment solutions

Increasing population, aging infrastructure, and stricter regulations have put pressure on wastewater conveyance and treatment systems. Parametrix develops sustainable, cost-effective solutions. In addition to traditional approaches, we are experienced in designing systems for advanced membrane filtration, reclaimed water, enhanced nutrient systems, and biosolids management. From collection and conveyance to treatment and reuse, we are exploring new ways for our clients to improve their operations and meet today’s challenges.

Nisqually Wastewater System Improvementss
Nisqually Reservation, Washington
Client: Nisqually Indian Tribe

The Nisqually Indian Tribe’s reservation was served only by septic systems and lacked wastewater infrastructure to meet their short- and long-term needs for housing, economic development, and economic diversification. Parametrix worked with the Tribe to plan, design, and implement a series of improvements culminating in the new 0.55 MGD Water Reclamation Plant. Other projects included a 0.1 MGD lift station, grinder station, and temporary treatment facility that allowed the Tribe to move forward with the Public Safety Complex; a fats, oils, and grease pretreatment facility at the Red Wind Casino; South Reservation Sanitary Sewer Collector system; and a second 0.1 MGD sanitary sewer lift station to support casino expansion. The Tribe has a cultural mandate to preserve and protect the environment and remain as independent as possible, and the solution to the wastewater problem had to align with these values. The membrane bioreactor (MBR) water reclamation plant is designed to deliver Class A Reclaimed Water and Class A Biosolids, resulting in a “zero waste” facility. The facility includes state of the art membrane technology and automation, and meets the Nisqually Tribe’s current and future water reclamation needs in a sustainable manner.
