What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?
I always loved math, physics, and earth science classes in high school, which led me to studying civil engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Michael Jones is an engineer with the Salt Lake City Transportation team. He has four years of industry experience and has worked at Parametrix for nearly two years. He recently earned his Professional Engineer (PE) license. We asked him about his career, favorite project, and advice for others pursuing their PE license.
Tell us about your professional background.
I graduated with my Master’s with an emphasis in Hydraulics from Utah State University in 2019. I had an internship that switched to full-time status at another consulting firm where I did roadway engineering for several large freeway projects. In November 2020 I moved to Parametrix to help create vibrant, sustainable communities through engineering.

Tell us about your professional background.
I am a graduate of Iowa State University and a Minnesota native. I graduated in 2018 and made my move out to Portland two months after to start at Parametrix. Besides an internship my short career has been with Parametrix entirely. I am looking forward to continuing to develop myself and my career at Parametrix for many years to come.

Cameron Carlson is an Electrical Engineer based out of our Seattle office, providing electrical power, instrumentation, and control services for water and wastewater utilities and public transportation clients. He has been with Parametrix for 6 years and recently earned his Electrical Professional Engineer license.

Tom Jordan from our Spokane, WA office recently earned his Professional Engineer’s (PE) license, a major career milestone. He shares what inspired him to pursue a career in civil engineering, projects he’s working on, career goals, and his advice for others working toward their PE license.
Tell us about your professional background.
I graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and started at Taylor Engineering in 2014, a couple years before we became Parametrix. I worked as a construction inspector for the Spokane International Airport’s Taxiway Reconfiguration Project.
