Parametrix has offices in 7 of the hippest cities in the nation

Courtney Purdin | 12-11-2017

When the 20 Hippest Cities in the US list came out, we can’t say we were too surprised that seven of the cities that we have offices in were on the list. You can often find employee-owners gathering at cool lunch spots near the office, getting together after work for happy hour, hitting the slopes, hiking, or river rafting.

Find out from our employee-owners what the best spots in their cities are.

Seattle, WA - #20

Seattle has so much to offer – from breathtaking views of the city and Mt. Rainier to outdoor adventures just minutes outside the city.

There are tons of great lunch spots near our office – so many, that the office has formed a lunch club that gets together on Fridays to scope out the best spots. A few local favorites include the Occidental Food Trucks, Fado Irish Pub, and Bakeman’s (unfortunately, they will be closing on December 22nd so hurry up and check it out if you haven’t already).

Parametrix’s Seattle office is located less than a mile from the famous Pike Place Market and about a mile and a half from the Space Needle.

Albuquerque, NM - #19

Our office in Albuquerque specializes in cultural resources, environmental planning and compliance, as well as transportation. This involves quite a bit of field work, so naturally, they’re a pretty outdoorsy group. The Sandias and La Luz trails are a couple of favorite hiking spots located right in their backyard. For lunch, the group enjoys getting together at Bosque, Steel Bender, Marble, and Duel. The breweries are outstanding as well.

Fun fact, according to RedFin, Albuquerque ranks #7 in urban farming!

Also, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta flies right over the office every year!

Portland, OR - #12

From good food, to outdoor adventures – Portland has it all! Take a hike at the Hoyt Arboretum to see native and endangered plant species. Enjoy unique ice cream flavors (who knew olive oil ice cream tastes like butterscotch?!) at Salt & Straw. All ingredients come from local farms! Browse books at the largest independent new and used book store in the world - Powell’s City of Books. Ground Kontrol is a vintage arcade with pinball machines and a bar. The famous Voodoo Donuts has a location less than a mile from the office (try the Fruit Loop Donut!) Portland has been nicknamed the City of Roses – see over 10,000 roses of 550 varieties at the International Rose Test Garden. Employee-owners in Portland encourage you to check out the Food cart pods – eat like a true Portlandian!

Spokane, WA - #7

The Spokane region is packed with great wineries, breweries, and distilleries so it’s not surprising it’s toward the top of the hippest cities list. Our office is located just a few minutes outside the downtown area, which offers great shopping and fun things to do. Take a gondola ride out of the downtown park over the river and lower falls. Skate the Ice Ribbon in the heart of Downtown. If you’re just visiting, stay in the Historic Davenport Hotel. Outdoor recreation opportunities are abundant as well. Take the Centennial Trail along the river all the way to Coeur d’Alene, ID. Don’t even get us started on the restaurants – Twigs, NuDo, Fire, Churchill’s, Sante, Mizuna to name a few….

 Tacoma, WA - #6

Tacoma, just south of Seattle, is located on the Puget Sound with stunning Mount Rainier Views. Our Tacoma office is in the downtown area, a few doors down from Odd Otter Brewery, and across the street from The Matador. Office favorites include 1111 for the absolute best sandwiches. You can often find the group at Meconi’s for lunch meetings. Hop on the link light rail (the station backs right up to the office) to visit local favorites- the Harmon, Elemental Pizza, or Casco Antiguo.

Boise, ID - #4

Our Boise office employee-owners want you to know that the state has more to offer than just potatoes. There are lots of great restaurants and places to explore, with outdoor recreation right outside the city. Employee-owners in the Boise office look forward to an annual rafting trip. If you’re not quite up for that adventure, check out the largest mural in the Northwest at Freak Alley Gallery. Stroll through the Basque Block (Boise has the largest Basque population in the country) and get a bite to each at Bardenay. According to employee-owners, Goldy’s is where the cool people go for breakfast.

Salt Lake City, UT - #2

There’s no shortage of things to do in and around Salt Lake – cool restaurants, nearby parks and hiking trails, and world class ski resorts less than an hour away to name a few. Parametrix’s quaint Salt Lake office resides in Midvale, just 15 minutes outside of Salt Lake City. Employee-owners often hit up the taco cart just around the corner for lunch. Or, just a short drive away there are lots of great restaurants including Red Iguana, R&R BBQ, Laziz Kitchen, and Medetrina. There are also vegan options - Sage’s Café, City Cakes, and Vertical Pizza.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail in the foothills of Salt Lake provide endless hiking and biking opportunities. One of the more popular hikes in that area is called “The Living Room”. Snowbird, Alta, Deer Valley, and Park City ski resorts are all located less than an hour from the office.

SLC Top Golf, right by the office, is a favorite gathering spot for employee-owners.
