The Internship Experience at Parametrix: Sean Angel

Courtney Purdin | 7-23-2018

Sean joins our Bend, OR office as a land surveying intern. He is from Dairy, OR and is currently a student at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) where he is working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Geomatics with a focus on Land Surveying. Prior to joining Parametrix, he had an internship at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and has worked at a family ranch and the hospital in Klamath Falls.

What made you decide to pursue a career in surveying?

I like that the job allows you to do a good portion of your work outside in the field. I also like that I’ll have the opportunity to travel to remote places.

What hobbies do you have outside of work?

I enjoy doing pretty much anything outdoors.

What are you working on at Parametrix?

I am currently working on road redesign for a few intersections of the old Bend-Redmond highway.

Why did you choose to complete an internship at Parametrix?

I chose Parametrix when they came to OIT for a career fair. They seemed like very pleasant and friendly people. Most companies don’t care about their employees as much as Parametrix does and they make you feel like you are part of the family right away.

What do you enjoy most so far about working at Parametrix?

I like that I have a good balance of field and office work. Also, everyone here is super friendly and welcoming.

What would you like to accomplish during your internship this summer?

With a little over a year left in school, I would like this internship to help me grow and become more confident as a surveyor. I would also like to take this opportunity to explore which type of surveying I enjoy doing the most and work toward specializing in that area. Thankfully at Parametrix, I’m able to do all types of surveying which makes it easy to become a well-rounded surveyor.

Where would you like to be in your career 5 years from now?

In five years I would like to be hired full time and be licensed or be very close to being a licensed professional land surveyor. I could definitely see myself working at Parametrix because it is a great place to work and to be apart of.
