San Francisco, CA – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, March 14 for 5.5 miles of new trails in Vallejo, CA.

The City of Vallejo live-streamed the event.

These new and expansive pedestrian and bicycle facilities are part of the Bay Trail-Vine Trail, a 47-mile route connecting the Vallejo Ferry Terminal to Calistoga, CA. It features separated two-way and directional bicycle facilities, protected intersections, interpretive signage, and shelters. These paths will provide safe, attractive routes to travel between residences, workplaces, commercial centers, and schools.

Parametrix provided preliminary and final design, community outreach, and coordination with multiple jurisdictions and sub-consultants for the $12 million multi-year project. RSA+ provided civil engineering support for the project.

“This is a rewarding project,” said Parametrix Project Manager, David Parisi, PE, TE.  “We worked with so many passionate people to create attractive, comfortable, and innovative active transportation facilities. We look forward to seeing the smiling faces on Bay Trail and Vine Trail users as they enjoy this expanded system.”

The trail traverses eight roadways, including two state highways. The Parametrix team designed:

  • 5,500 linear feet of Class I facilities (shared-use paths)
  • 2,200 linear feet of buffered Class II facilities (bicycle lanes)
  • 13,100 linear feet of Class IV facilities (separate bikeways)

Modifications were made to multiple intersections to provide protected, comfortable facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other trail users.

The project broke ground in August 2023 and is a collaboration between the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Association of Bay Area Governments, City of Vallejo, Solano Transportation Authority, California Active Transportation Program, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, California Climate Investments, and Caltrans.
