Albuquerque, NM – Shane Kuhlman, PE has joined Parametrix as a senior consultant. He has 20 years of experience in structural engineering, encompassing both bridge and building structures. He has an array of experience in all aspects of structural engineering including design, analysis, detailing, construction, seismic assessment and retrofit, and bridge management and inspection. He has experience in both the private and public sectors in New Mexico and the Southwest.
Kuhlman comes to Parametrix from Los Alamos National Laboratory where he served as a senior structural engineer for facilities. Prior to this, he held the position of Bridge Bureau Chief/State Bridge Engineer for the New Mexico Department of Transportation where he was responsible for the state’s bridge inventory including bridge design, construction management, bridge inspection and management, oversize and overweight vehicles, emergency response, and bridge prioritization and funding efforts. Additionally, he has experience in the private sector at TYLIN where he was a structural engineer associate and lead bridge engineer based in Albuquerque.
From 2018 to 2023, he served on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee for Bridges and Structures and was an active participant on the Steel and Metals Committee and Technology Committee. He was also a board member of the Structural Engineers Association of New Mexico from 2016 to 2018 and served as president from 2017 to 2018.
At Parametrix, Kuhlman joins the firm’s bridge and structures practice. Based in Albuquerque, he will support transportation projects for state and local agencies and collaborate regionally with other Parametrix offices.
Outside of work he enjoys watching his kids participate in multiple sports and spending time outdoors camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing with his family.
