World Cup Traffic Dashboard

Just a few weeks before the first 2026 FIFA World Cup match in Seattle, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) reached out to Parametrix to develop a dashboard that would allow them to understand the traffic impacts of the World Cup matches, expected to bring over 750,000 visitors to the area. The dashboard needed to be user friendly for multiple audiences, and it needed to provide both high-level impacts and deeper insights into the data.

In just two weeks, Parametrix set up the data flows and delivered a dashboard in time for the first World Cup match in Seattle. SDOT’s front office and their traffic operations team are using the data dashboard to compare matchday traffic conditions to a baseline for each phase of the matchday.

The dashboard serves two primary purposes:

      • Live Matchday Monitoring: the dashboard serves data at near-real time, allowing SDOT to monitor traffic conditions during the matchday.

      • Previous Day Analysis: SDOT can analyze data for previous matchdays to monitor to adjust traffic plans/protocols for future matches. It also presents data for non-matchdays, allowing SDOT to see how the network is holding up with increased tourism due to the World Cup.

The dashboard provides a network-wide view along with area rollups for specific neighborhoods and individual location profiles, giving users different levels of detail. Front office employees can get a high-level view of traffic conditions, while more technical users can drill down for more detailed analysis. Data is collected and presented in near-real time. The dashboard refreshes every 15 minutes on matchdays and every two hours on non-matchdays. There are live feeds for travel times, traffic counts, traffic incidents, and weather.
