We’re thrilled to have several interns joining us at Parametrix this summer! We strive to provide challenging, hands-on project experience to students entering our industry. Inspiring young professionals early in their career is critical for the future of our profession and for our purpose of restoring the health of the planet for future generations.

Meet Nicole Chen, an intern with our Puyallup Water division. She is from Mercer Island, WA and recently graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering.

Why did you choose an internship at Parametrix?

I chose to intern at Parametrix because I have grown up in the Pacific Northwest learning about Lake Washington and the surrounding environment and I want to help leave a lasting impact on the place I’ve called home for the past 20+ years.

What would you like to accomplish during your internship?

I hope to meet new people and learn a lot from them and their experiences. I’m excited to be able to work on multiple projects and learn through hands on experiences as well. I also hope to learn and gain experience in working at an engineering firm.

What is your ultimate career goal?

My goal is to get my Professional Engineer certification and keep working in the environmental and/or water sectors. I hope to stay in the Pacific Northwest area and continue to work on meaningful projects that help give back to my community.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love playing volleyball (been playing since 3rd grade) and taking walks to Luther Burbank with my family. I recently started catching up on all the books and TV shows I put on pause while at school. I also enjoy bullet journaling as a way to stimulate my creativity as well as keep organized.
