City of Menlo Park Middle Avenue Complete Streets named Project of the Year

San Francisco, CA – The American Public Works Association (APWA) Silicon Valley Chapter awarded the City of Menlo Park and Parametrix the 2026 project of the year award in the transportation, less than $2 million, category for the Middle Avenue Complete Streets project. The award was presented during an event on May 8.

The award promotes excellence in public works by recognizing partnerships between managing agencies, consultants, and contractors who work together to successfully complete public works projects.

The Middle Avenue Complete Streets project features bicycle lanes, improved crossings, and traffic calming measures to provide a safer, multimodal corridor for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers traveling to schools, parks, grocery stores, downtown, and surrounding neighborhoods.

The city used traffic studies, surveys, and pilot project installations to evaluate conditions and refine improvements before permanent construction. Phased implementation, including pilot striping and performance monitoring, allowed the city to validate design decisions and adjust elements as needed. The community provided input on the project through surveys and public meetings, which shaped the design of the safety and access improvements.
