San Diego, CA – Nirupa Kannan, PE, PMP, has joined Parametrix as the firm’s California engineering manager. She has over 20 years of experience in transit, highway, roadway, and active transportation projects.
Kannan comes to Parametrix from HNTB Corporation, where she served as an associate vice president, managing the firm’s San Diego transportation engineering department. There, she led a team of over 20 professionals, working with agencies such as the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), North County Transit District (NCTD), and Caltrans.
Kannan’s project experience includes the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Project, Brightline West High-Speed Rail, Mid-Coast Corridor Light Rail Transit Project, Next Gen Rapid/BRT 625, Border to Bayshore Bikeway, and Encinitas Coastal Rail Trail.

At Parametrix, Kannan joins the firm’s California transportation team, providing planning, engineering, and design services to municipalities and transportation agencies throughout the state.
Parametrix established a presence in California in 2023 with the acquisition of Parisi Transportation Consulting in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2024, the firm opened a San Diego office. Today, Parametrix has over 40 employees based in California. The firm continues to expand its California presence to serve public agencies and other clients across the state.
