San Deigo, CA – Anthony Sánchez, PhD, PE has joined Parametrix as a principal consultant and national bridge practice leader. In his career spanning over 35 years, Sánchez has served as a field construction engineer, seismic researcher, bridge construction inspector, design engineer, project manager, and engineer of record for the design, construction, and maintenance of over 150 bridges. His bridge projects have received over 100 design awards on the local, state and national levels.
Sánchez comes to Parametrix from a national engineering firm where he served as major and complex bridge leader in the southwest region. His project experience includes conventional highway, transit and rail bridges, as well as major landmark crossings. Some notable projects include Shoemaker Bridge in Long Beach, CA; I-395 Bridge in Miami, FL; Hoover Dam Bypass on the Arizona-Nevada border; San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; Lowry Ave Bridge in Minneapolis, MN; and the UCSD Gilman Bridge in La Jolla, CA. Sánchez has also designed over a dozen notable pedestrian bridges including the Lake Hodges Bridge in San Diego, CA, the longest stress ribbon bridge in the world.

Sánchez served as a lecturer in the Department of Structural Engineering at the University of California San Diego, where he developed and taught a graduate-level bridge design course. He was the founding president of the San Diego Transportation Development Association, served as director of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) San Diego Section, and was chairman of the ASCE Transportation Group. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Public Works Association.
At Parametrix, Sánchez will lead the firm’s national bridge practice, which includes offices in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, and Illinois providing civil and structural engineering services to state departments of transportation, municipalities, transit agencies, and other public agencies.
