The character and function of North Bend Way has changed over the years. Once serving as the highway leading from Puget Sound to Snoqualmie Pass, it is now the main transportation corridor for the city. North Bend’s business district has also expanded beyond its compact historic center and now extends along the corridor.
Parametrix led the development of a comprehensive complete streets plan to increase mobility and safety on a 5-mile stretch of North Bend Way from Park Street to 468th Avenue SE. Preserving the small-town character of the town was an important piece of the project. Improvements include dedicated walking and biking paths as well as wayfinding signage, banners, planting, seating, and lighting. The plan is intended to enable safe access and travel for all users regardless of age or ability. The plan will include conceptual level designs to guide future investment in the corridor.
