Since 2004, Parametrix has partnered with the Kalispel Tribe to develop the Northern Quest Resort and Casino as a thriving resort, entertainment, and retail destination featuring luxurious hotel rooms, Vegas-style gaming, a spa, and restaurants. The 650-acre property also provides a movie theater, RV resort, apartments, and an outdoor concert venue.
A 1.25-acre grand plaza provides a pleasing aesthetic entrance to the resort. The plaza’s basic geometry takes its shape from the Tribe’s iconic sturgeon-nosed canoe, forming a progression of welcoming and flexible outdoor spaces. What was once a two-lane road was redeveloped with a one-way couplet system, narrower lanes, and on-street parking, achieving a pedestrian-friendly experience while maintaining safe and efficient vehicular circulation. Cultural elements play a critical part in creating a memorable experience for visitors. Stylized tule reed sculptures, fabricated by the Kalispel Career Training Center, create a sense of arrival. A large central fountain depicts the creation story through a series of sculptures and panels.
Parametrix has provided civil and utility design for a 50,000-square-foot casino expansion; a nine-story hotel; a two-acre, five-story parking garage; and an off-site stormwater conveyance and disposal system. We also designed the relocation of the Sprague Avenue arterial to the south, to allow for future expansion of Northern Quest Resort. This project involved a new four-lane arterial, roundabout, and utility services that serve as a backbone for the Phase 1 master plan utility network.
