Mobility Hubs Coming to Central Oregon

Share

Plans are underway to bring Mobility Hubs to Central Oregon. Parametrix is working with Cascades East Transit (CET) to implement Bend’s first mobility hub pilot project in Downtown Bend.

What are mobility hubs?

At their core, mobility hubs are places where people can access and make efficient connections between multiple transportation modes, services, and emerging mobility options. A step beyond traditional transit centers, mobility hubs can be used as a strategic approach to manage a range of issues including personal vehicle demand, parking, emissions, placemaking, and intermodal transfers.

Pilot hubs coming as soon as this year

The pilot hub will use low-cost and flexible materials like paint, signage, and landscaping to create a new transit, bike, and pedestrian hub. The concept also includes a “flex mobility zone” that could accommodate rideshare pick-up/drop-off, bikeshare, or even potential electric vehicle chargers.

Mobility hub improvements to Hawthorne Station are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

A site plan, traffic, constructability, and environmental review have been completed for a potential mobility hub location adjacent to Troy Field in the Bend core area. The bidding process is expected to begin later this year, with construction anticipated for 2024-2025.

This effort builds on the Mobility Hubs Feasibility Study and Pilot Project Development Plan (2022) led by Parametrix in partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation, the Bend Metropolitan Planning Organization, the City of Bend, and CET.
