Tacoma, WA – Sound Transit has identified alternatives for the 9.7-mile Tacoma Dome Link Extension project which will extend the Link light rail system from Federal Way through Fife and into Tacoma.

The project will now move into environmental study. Parametrix is leading the study as the primary sub-consultant partner to HDR. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is set to be published in 2021, with final station and alignment selection in 2022 and construction starting in 2025. Light rail between Federal Way and Tacoma will begin in 2030.

The nearly 10-mile stretch of light rail will consist of mostly elevated tracks and include four new stations. When complete, riders can expect a 35 minute trip from the Tacoma Dome Station to SeaTac Airport.

The project is part of the Sound Transit 3 (known as ST3) ballot measure, which was approved by voters in 2016.
