City of Lakewood’s Veterans Drive Southwest Receives Engineering Excellence Award
03.28.22
Seattle, WA – The American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington hosted their annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on Friday, March 25, in Bellevue, WA. The City of Lakewood’s Veterans Drive Southwest Improvements Project project, submitted by Parametrix, received the Bronze Award in the Social, Economic, and Sustainable Design category.
Veterans Drive Southwest is a 1.9-mile residential arterial that was rebuilt from Gravelly Lake Drive to the Veteran’s Administration American Lake Medical Center. The roadway was limited to two lanes with active transportation facilities added, including a shared-use path and sidewalk to provide safe connections to local businesses, direct access to American Lake Park, and connections to public transit and job centers beyond. Roundabouts replaced intersections along the corridor to improve safety and calm traffic as it enters the commercial core. The project beautifies the neighborhood and helps improve the quality of life for residents while spurring economic opportunities for local businesses.
“This project has been truly transformative for the area,” said Paul Bucich, City of Lakewood Public Works Engineering Director.
Parametrix served as the Prime Consultant and Design Engineer for the project.
