Seattle, WA – Hailey Brey is a Transit/Active Transportation Planner based in Seattle, WA who joined Parametrix in 2020. Through her volunteer work with Leafline Trails Coalition over the last couple of years, she is making an impact to trails in the region. She helped launch a Map Vision and maintains the dataset that will help to cohesively connect Central Puget Sound through over 900 miles of trails.

On October 28, 2022, Brey was recognized at the Washington State Trails Coalition Conference with the 2022 Emerging Leader Award. This award honors an emerging leader who has distinguished themselves with a significant, positive contribution to any aspect of Washington trails over the last two years.

Parametrix was a sponsor of the conference. Fred Young, another Parametrix active transportation planner, facilitated a panel discussion about the synergy between trails and transit. Panel members included Philip Harris (Washington State Department of Transportation), Alex Krieg (Sound Transit), and Monica Thompson (City of Lynnwood).

Brey also presented alongside Gabriel Avila-Mooney, Terry Jungman, and Claire Martini on the work they have done with Leafline Trails Coalition.

Brey holds a degree in Urban Geography from the University of Texas at Austin. As a Transit/Active transportation Planner, she looks for ways to illustrate a geography’s story through a syntheses of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis and graphic design. She has worked on transit and active transportation access projects across Washington and Oregon.

In February 2021 she began volunteering with the Leafline Trails Coalition to develop a comprehensive regional trail dataset. Over a year and a half, Brey dedicated her time and mapping skills to collecting data and mapping trail routes throughout Puget Sound alongside a small technical team that included Gabriel Avila-Mooney (King County Parks), Terry Jungman (City of Kent), Claire Martini (Leafline Trails Coalition) and Amy Taylor (City of Maple Valley).

When the Leafline Trails Coalition officially launched the Map Vision in June of 2022, it marked the first coordinated effort to create a shared map of the trail network spanning jurisdictional boundaries across Puget Sound.

“I did not realize until the last few months what a valuable tool this map will be for our clients, partners, and others across the industry as we grow our network of trails across the region. I look forward to helping maintain this document and hopefully seeing some of the trail network gaps get constructed!” said Brey.

Brey says she lives by the ethos that safe and equitable transportation options should be available to people of all ages, abilities, and socioeconomic status. Both personally and professional, she thrives on finding practical ways to support this communal mission.
