Seattle, WA – Hicham Chatila, PE, PTOE has joined Parametrix as National Director of Smart and Livable Communities. He will be based out of the firm’s Seattle office, leading the firm’s practice to assist clients with smart and livable community programs and initiatives.
Chatila has over 35 years of industry experience, specializing in technology and emerging smart city solutions for connected and livable communities. He has managed a variety of award-winning projects in North America and internationally.
He began his career with the Washington State Highway Department as a transportation engineer. He later joined the City of Springfield, Oregon as Transportation Manager. He went on to join Transpo Group where he established and grew the firm’s Intelligent Transportation Systems practice in the United States. In 2010 he relocated to the Middle East where he established and grew the firm’s planning and technology business to five offices in multiple countries with over 130 staff. He served as the firm’s President of the Middle East and North Africa. In 2020 he relocated to Seattle and established TRAFX, providing strategic technology consultancy services to several public and private sector clients including City of Bellevue, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Portland TriMet.
Most recently he worked with public agencies on various emerging technology projects including:
- Development of Dubai’s Strategic Autonomous Vehicle Plan
- Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Regional Integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems Program (RIITS)
- Portland TriMet Next Generation Cloud-Based Transit Signal Priority (TSP) Program
- Video analytics and artificial intelligence for various multimodal mobility applications
- Development of Dubai’s multimodal Enterprise Command and Control Center (EC3)
- Smart mobility plans
His project experience includes a variety of autonomous and connected vehicles, Cloud-Based connected vehicle mobility and safety solutions, intelligent transportation system and multi-modal transportation planning and design projects for clients in the Pacific Northwest and internationally, such as the City of Seattle, King County Metro, the Washington State Department of Transportation, Port of Seattle, Idaho Transportation Department, City of Dubai, City of Abu Dhabi, City of Riyadh, and City of Doha.
