The BART Ashby Station Bicycle Access Improvement project closes a gap in Berkeley’s bike network, connecting Woolsey Street to Prince Street. This project included a one-way inbound bike lane from Woolsey Street-Adeline Street into the station area and a two-way cycle-track from MLK Jr. Way-Prince Street.
The work required widening and re-grading an access roadway to add a bike lane at one end and changing the station vehicle circulation to add a two-way separated bikeway at the other end. The civil design included horizontal alignment, grading, curb and gutter, driveway, curb ramps, and utility relocation. The traffic engineering work included new bikeway striping, intersection and crosswalk striping, and traffic control signs.
Parametrix prepared the full construction documents, coordinated the project between BART and the City of Berkeley, applied for encroachment permits, and provided construction support.
