Factoria Recycling and Transfer Station

The new $56 million replacement Factoria Transfer Station was built on the same site as the existing facility, while maintaining operations throughout construction. Parametrix was the construction manager for the project including relocating operations, demolishing existing structures, and completing the new facility. Project features include a main transfer building with an attached administration and hazardous waste building, and a separate scale house building. Parametrix responsibilities included coordination with the neighborhood and the City of Bellevue; project review prior to completing the 30 percent design development; and a value engineering study that focused on the multiple options and alternative approaches for station development. The project was developed to provide for alternative future levels of service, design excellence, and a high level of environmental stewardship. Parametrix coordinated construction phasing to allow for continuous operations and provide for safety of residential and commercial traffic during construction while managing sensitive site features, including high groundwater flows.
