This project made emergency repairs to an 85-year-old, 30-inch-diameter culvert under approximately 18 feet of roadway fill. The culvert’s pipe joints were separating, allowing water to undermine the bedding and fill materials. Seattle Public Utilities called on Parametrix through an on-call contract to design emergency repairs including sealing the culvert joints and stabilizing the embankment slope. The project also involved grading, landscape restoration, traffic control, design of a soldier pile wall, temporary erosion/sediment control, special provisions, and cost estimates.
